Dr. Kevin Stewart

Kevin Stewart was a Medical Director and Deputy Chief Investigator at the Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch (HSIB) from 2017 to 2022. HSIB was established to develop methodology for patient safety investigations in the NHS by adapting Human Factors approaches that had been successful in other safety critical industries.
He has been a consultant in General & Geriatric Medicine in Hampshire since 1995 and has held several medical leadership posts including as Medical Director of an acute Trust and of a safety programme at the Department of Health. In 2009 he was awarded a Health Foundation Quality Improvement Fellowship at IHI in Boston where he was trained on all aspects of patient safety and QI, and completed a Masters in Public Health at Harvard. He then spent 6 years at the Royal College of Physicians in London leading their quality and safety programmes.
He has extensive local, national and international experience of teaching and training on all aspects of patient safety and QI for HSIB, IHI, the Royal Colleges, the Medical Protection Society and various parts of the NHS.
