Dr Sarah-Louise Youngs
Trainer & Healthcare Harm Specialist
Sarah graduated from the University of Birmingham with a degree in medicine. She has over 25 years of clinical experience working as a Doctor both in the UK and abroad, predominantly in Primary Care as a GP Partner, Out of Hours Doctor and GP Appraiser.
Sarah has personal experience of Human Factors For Healthcare; her son was born 3 months prematurely in 2016 and he spent 6 months on Neonatal ICU with Sarah living with him on site, round the clock. Tragically, he never left ICU and died from complications aged 6 months. Sarah has direct understanding of communication, culture and involvement in patient care and bereavement from both a personal and professional viewpoint.
As a result of this trauma, Sarah no longer works as a doctor, but is passionate about using her knowledge and experiences - both positive & negative - to improve outcomes for patients, families and staff. She subsequently worked with her son’s neonatal unit to help them achieve their Bliss Level 3 Baby Friendly Award and therefore has direct experience of change management within the NHS.
