Matthew has over 25 years’ experience in pre-hospital care and has worked in the UK and the Middle East. Having specialised in critical care he has a particular interest on the effects of stress on the individual and team performance and has previously worked on London’s Air Ambulance.
Matthew has a BSc in Paramedic Science and during his dissertation developed a behaviour marker system to measure and feedback non-technical skills in the pre-hospital setting. Since then he has completed a postgraduate qualification in patient safety and human factors and has conducted research on taking a systems approach to investigate medical error.
He is currently employed as a senior lecturer at St Georges University, London where Matthew teaches human factors on healthcare courses across the medical faculty, as well as leading a postgraduate course in leadership in advanced clinical practice.
