Foundations of Appreciative Inquiry (AI) introduces this powerful, positive approach to organisational change and development. This two-day course explores not only the background and principles of AI, but how it can be applied in healthcare environments.

Who is this course suitable for?

Course objectives

This course will:

  • Explore the background to the use of AI in organisations, and strength based/whole system approaches 

  • Introduce Positive Psychology

  • Demonstrate the use of narrative, metaphor and story within AI 

  • Allow you to experience appreciative conversations 

  • Review the AI principles and their application 

  • Examine the 5D cycle (Definition, Discovery, Dream, Design and Destiny/Delivery)

  • Look at "Reframing" and how to use it in responding to challenges

  • Introduce Safety I & Safety II 

  • Practice developing appreciative questions 

  • Define Generativity

  • Use examples of Learning from Excellence application 

  • Help you design an appreciative interview/conversation

  • Establish SOAR; the strength based version of SWOT 

  • Discuss Appreciative facilitation and what supports positive learning

  • Use examples of successful application in organisational development, health, and the Centre of Learning from Excellence

  • Suggest practical applications in the workplace
