Medicolegal Issues is a one-day introductory course that provides an insight into Medical Law, Consent, Capacity, Child & Young People and Negligence, and the impact that Medicolegal issues can have on healthcare organisations.

Course objectives
This course will:
Provide an overview of the process by which a complaint gets to court as well as the human and financial impact of litigation on the NHS
Introduce the five key principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and how to manage decision making for a patient that lacks capacity
Explore what constitutes informed consent and who can give it
Discuss the principles of parental responsibility and how consent law differs for children and young people
Examine the three-part test for clinical negligence and what constitutes gross negligence
